New York has a large variety of truck regulations. LCVs are allowed, primarily on the thruway, but the combinations travelling are limited to double 48’ trailers, triples are not used in New York. Additionally, there are heavy trucks allowed to travel with divisible loads under permit in New York. These combinations are tridem and quad axle trailers being pulled by standard tractors. There are specifications for these types of trailers which include load equalizing and regulation of weight distribution across the axles on the trailer. State and Designated highways in New York have higher axle weights available then on the Qualifying and Access highway system. New York City has many additional restrictions, including narrow trucks and shorter overall lengths.
